iExpress

  • Component: Foster and Encourage Creativity
  • Thinking creatively is an integral component of the curriculum and one of the key components to being a well-rounded student. By fostering and encouraging creativity through these different activities, various learning styles will be emphasized and valued.

    • Students will have the option to participate in writing groups. In these groups creativity will be encouraged through creative writing prompts, free writing, and journal writing.
    • Students will be able to participate in building a robot, bridge to scale, or other mechanisms utilizing current technology and design skills. Resources will be provided for the students, and these activities will take place in either a technology class or an art class, or even as an after school club. Students will be encouraged to enter their creations into local, state and national contests.
    • Students will be given the opportunity to participate in organized debates and will learn about current politics. This will enable them to be more active citizens in the community and to participate in local government functions.
    • Garage Band will be used as an extension to the Music curriculum. Students will be able to create their own sound recordings and will be able to edit and compose tracks for podcasts. Faculty and students will collaborate and will create fun, yet appropriate songs to be used in conjunction with the curriculum
    • Students will sponsor and participate in community service activities, which will allow them to collaborate with the community and will provide outreach services.

  • Ways in which iSearch Model Supports Fostering Creativity
    • Learning is student-centered.
    • Students analyze and synthesize information by connecting their new, creative experiences and their prior knowledge.
    • Students are motivated by their interest in these activities and want to explore them.
    • Since I-Search is non-restrictive, students can be creative with how they represent their new knowledge.
