  • Component: Professional Development
  • Please check the This Week in the Library bulletins (see link) which feature weekly information about services or items that may be of interest to teachers. The library staff may share additional "library news" with you at faculty meetings.

In response to requests from last year, the focus of the media center's professional development program for this year is a series of monthly technology workshops. This will allow teachers to learn about a specific form of technology and apply it directly to their work. All workshops require pre-registration and request teachers to submit questions they may have in advance.

  • 2006-2007 Schedule:

    • September: Creating your class website (bring artifacts that you would like to include, may be physical items to scan or files/information to upload)
    • October: Database set up (using MS Access): bring your gradebook or gradebook files
    • November: MS Office tutorial: focus on Powerpoint and Excel, will field questions about any MS office program
    • December: Just in time for holiday video viewing: projection equipment options!
    • January: Tell us what you need: open workshop for any questions teachers may have for the upcoming second semester
    • February: Become a social networking guru: MySpace, Facebook, and what do the kids do there all day?
    • March: Set up a wiki (we promise it won't be painful!)
    • April: Podcasting, and other audio fun (bring an idea for a podcast project in class, or a book you would love to share with your students)
    • May: Blogging - blogs to follow and how to create your own (so your students can enjoy some edifying summer reading!)
    • June: Open workshop, taking questions and suggestions for next year.

Additionally, the staff is always available to answer questions and lend a hand on an as-needed basis. Come visit!

  • Ways in which iSearch Model Supports Professional Development
  • Just as the faculty encourages students to follow their research interests, teachers are able to attend the workshops that interest them and practice skills that will be useful in their classrooms. The emphasis of the professional development program is not to create technological but to allow teachers to discover tools that can improve their practice.
